Yes, Mary, I agree. Joanne comes up with great ideas to keep her store viable.
Deborah, you did a great job as moderator! And there are still lots of reader who read print books and like to browse in bookstores. Hopefully they’ll support the indies who support the authors and vice versa.

Hi, Nancy …. thanks for the nice sum of our panel on the fast-paced changes in the publishing world, and how all of us are trying to keep up. Joanne’s question was a good one (and a difficult one): What’s the bookseller’s role going forward? I’m not even sure I can say what the AUTHOR’S role will be in the future, but my hope is that signings and events at bookstores will continue. I do think readers want that personal interaction — whether with an informed bookseller who can recommend a book she loves, or with an author who comes to give a talk and sign a book.

Yes, it’s a topic that makes you think. I’ve done the reinvention thing as a writer twice now, but this panel talked about reinventing a whole industry.
