Hi Nancy. I see here you have a book on Writing the Cozy Mystery. Since the term always conjured up Miss Marple, or country house mysteries, i never thought of mine as such, but that’s how they’re characterized (e.g. Mai Tais & Mayhem: Murder at Mote Marine or The Penhallow Train Incident). How do you define a “cozy” mystery?

    • A cozy mystery has an amateur sleuth. The story takes place in a distinctive setting. Many of the characters know each other and may have a motive for murder. In a cozy, there’s no graphic sex, violence, or bad language. The reader expects to solve a puzzle, and often looks forward to learning about an interesting occupation or setting.
